How a Foreign Customer Can Finance U.S. Equipment

The Challenge of Selling Capital Goods Internationally

U.S. exporters of capital goods — machinery, equipment, and other higher-value items — often face the challenge that foreign buyers cannot or will not pay cash upfront. Buyers may need extended payment terms of two, three, or five years or more to make a purchase feasible. Without a financing solution, the sale may not happen.

Medium-Term Financing Options

EXIM Bank's medium-term programs can support financing for foreign purchases of U.S. capital goods and services. Under these programs, a lender provides financing to the foreign buyer, and EXIM Bank guarantees repayment to the lender. The U.S. exporter receives payment at or near shipment, and the foreign buyer repays the lender over the agreed term.

Working With JMR

JMR works with U.S. exporters and their foreign customers to evaluate medium-term financing options and identify structures that work for both parties. We can help assess whether a transaction may qualify for EXIM Bank support and work with lenders and other parties to structure the financing.
